Wreaths Across America“To be killed in war is not the worst that can happen. To be lost is not the worst that can happen… to be forgotten is the worst.” -Pierre Claeyssens (1909-2003)

Established in 1992, Wreaths Across America aims to remember our lost veterans, honor their memory and service to our country, and teach others about our veterans and what it means for them to fight for our freedom. Each Christmas, Wreaths Across America aims to lay a wreath on every headstone in 36 sections of Arlington National Cemetery this year, in addition to headstones at one of the 909 other locations across America. Autumn Hill Nursery supports this organization and encourages you to participate this Saturday, December 14th to place a wreath at the Canton Cemetery, or just sponsor a wreath for the event.

This event is a somber reminder of how many people have given their lives to serve our country and protect our freedom. Their goal in 2014 is to place a wreath at every headstone in Arlington National Cemetery for the 150th anniversary of the Cemetery. This huge goal is going to require approximately 230,000 wreaths. That amounts to about one tractor trailer load of wreaths from each of the 50 states!

At a time of year when we are trying to spend time appreciating our families and the holidays, take a moment to thank those who have given their lives for your freedom for their sacrifice. Remember them, and their families who will have an empty seat at their dinner table on Christmas day.

Please get involved in Wreaths Across America. There are two ways you can help – donate online to sponsor a wreath for a solider’s headstone, or participate in the event this coming Saturday. They have currently only reached 53% of their goal, please help them make it!
