The weather is finally getting warmer – you can practically taste spring in the air – which means it is time to start planting and growing! This year, Autumn Hill Nursery wants to help you grow your very own vegetable garden in Canton, GA because we know that everyone’s pockets have been hit hard by the economy. Right now, your largest bill is probably your grocery bill. If you start growing some of your own produce  and herbs in your Woodstock, GA back yard, you could drastically reduce what you are spending on simply food each month!

There are several reasons for growing your own vegetables and herbs – controlling the chemicals and pesticides that go into it, freshness, and of course, price. The third point is what we are going to focus on today, but we will discuss the other two benefits of growing your own food in later blog posts.

If you need to buy a pack of herbs from the grocery store, they can cost anywhere from $3 to $6 and you can use those for maybe one or two meals. On the other hand  if you bought potted herbs they would only cost you about $2.50 to $4 and they will last you about 8 months and multiple harvests! You even have the option of starting from seeds – which will take a bit more time and care – and you will reduce your cost down to $1 or $2 plus simply time and labor. When deciding whether to buy potted plants versus seeds, Autumn Hill Nursery recommends buying potted plants for the first time or less experienced gardener. Seeds are obviously delicate and you may not get the results you were expecting.

This year, save some green by going green and growing your own vegetable garden. Autumn Hill Nursery is stocking up on our vegetable and herb selection, so come by and pick out your favorites to get started growing your garden and shrinking your grocery bill!
