Hybrid Tea RoseThe annual rose sale here at Autumn Hill Nursery is about to open! Have you picked out where you’re going to plant your roses, yet? The best way to choose the right roses for your landscape is to know where you’re going to plant them so that you can choose the right rose for the conditions. Autumn Hill Nursery has some advice on the types of things that you should keep in mind when choosing which roses you want to buy from our annual sale.

  • Sun Conditions – Some roses prefer full sun while others prefer partly shaded.
  • Soil Conditions – Here in Georgia, we have that hard red clay soil. Some roses will thrive there while others will surely perish. Don’t forget, you always have the option of potting your rose.
  • Watering Needs – All of your roses will need plenty of water in their first year.
  • Size and Growing Type – Here is where you must pay special attention. Roses come in all shapes and sizes. Some grow better in pots and containers, some are small shrubs for your border, while others grow into hedges or climb. Make sure you are choosing the right type of rose for whatever area you are planting it in. Yes, you can prune roses some to control their size and shape, but there is no use trying to turn a climbing rose into a bush.
