Welcome spring and be a pollinator superhero by planting early blooming bulbs for the bees and butterflies. Low-growing Crocus can create a sweet border to a bed, or dapple a lawn in color, it blooms as early-season native bees start to awaken and search for nectar. Pair them with a contrasting color in another low-growing bulb, Muscari also known as Grape Hythnith for a bright and easy addition to your pollinator perennial garden! Muscari’s bell shape makes it a friendly flower for hungry insects. For a taller option drop a colorful array of Alliums and Daffodiles. We love them encircling a statement tree in the front yard, or at the base of a garden swing for a little surprise for you and the pollinators, listen close and you can hear them buzz by a little thank you as they enjoy your early spring garden!
Two unique varieties we have this year are
Siberian Squill
Native to Southwest Russia and Turkey, not Siberia at all. This true blue flower is ideal for rock gardens and borders. These are an early spring bloomer and are a great snack for the bees! Fun fact: Siberian Squill has electric blue pollen!
Red Spider Lilies
Here’s a summer bloomer for you! These firework-like blooms work like a magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds while managing to be deer and rodent-resistant. Plant them in your perennial garden for an exciting surprise during the hottest months.
